主題: Alcohol consumption may reduce the likelihood of successful conception.
Most women are aware that drinking alcohol during pregnancy can pose risks to the fetus, and there is no established safe level of alcohol consumption during pregnancy. What women may not know is that even moderate alcohol consumption during the mid to late stages of the menstrual cycle may reduce the likelihood of successful conception.
A study published in the journal Human Reproduction examined the relationship between alcohol and fertility — specifically the chances of conceiving within one menstrual cycle. It analyzed data from 413 women aged 19 to 41 years, examining alcohol consumption patterns and hormone levels at different stages of the monthly cycle. The study found that moderate alcohol intake (3-6 drinks per week) and heavy intake (more than 6 drinks per week) during the post-ovulation phase of the menstrual cycle interfered with the delicate hormonal sequence needed for pregnancy. The researchers also found that heavy drinking during the early stages of the menstrual cycle, namely around ovulation, also affected fertility.
