《American Journal of Infection Control》刊登英国卡地夫大学(Cardiff University)的研究，测试十种清洁湿纸巾(detergent wet wipes)对于抗药性金黄色葡萄球菌(MRSA)、困难梭状芽孢杆菌(Clostridium difficile , C. difficile)与不动杆菌属(Acinetobacter)等三种常见感染菌的抑制效果。结果发现抑菌效果差异很大，几乎没有任何一种纸巾拆封接触空气5分钟后还能保有抑菌效果(>4 log10 抑菌力) ，除非纸巾含有5,000-ppm的漂白水，且一般湿纸巾的材质在重复使用的情况下，细菌会附着在湿纸巾上传播到其他物质或人体表面。作者建议医疗人员应确实做到同一清洁湿巾只擦拭单一表面，否则反而会将医院内的超级细菌散布到各处。研究刊登在《American Journal of Infection Control》第39卷第3期第212-218页：
