《Biomaterials》刊登卡罗林斯卡医学院(Karolinska Institute)的研究，利用大鼠干细胞创造出能够收缩的横膈膜。每两千五百位新生儿可能有一位会有先天性横膈膜疝气，以手术修复有三大缺点：疝气易复发、修补的横膈膜没有生长潜力，还有修补后的功能可能不全。此研究中，大鼠横膈膜组织去细胞后，再植入骨髓间质干细胞(bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells, BM-MSCs)，取代了大鼠左半横膈膜的80%，且能跟原先的横膈膜同步收缩，无论是肌动图、肺量计与组织学评估都显示再生组织与原组织相同。研究成果显示再生横膈膜有潜力作为横膈膜缺损患者的重建选择。 全球醫藥新知
