家族性地中海热（Familial Mediterranean Fever, FMF）为一种自体免疫疾病，主要特色是浆膜及筋膜反覆性疼痛发炎的情形，通常会伴随出现发烧的现象。某些病人会有淀粉样蛋白质积聚(amyloidosis)的情况发生，并常造成肾脏衰竭，临床上可以微量白蛋白尿（Microalbuminuria）作为诊断指标，而发表于《Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences》的最新文章便评估红血球体积分布（Red cell distribution width, RDW）变化与FMF及微量白蛋白尿间关系。试验中，177位患者依Tel-Hoshmer临床标准诊断，并于未发病期间与143位健康受试者接受采血及采尿。试验结果显示，FMF患者RDW高于健康受试者，有微量白蛋白尿的FMF患者RDW也高于无微量白蛋白尿患者，无微量白蛋白尿患者RDW又高于健康受试者，研究人员认为RDW可作为FMF患者微量白蛋白尿的预测指标。研究刊登在《Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences》的网页
