在醫學上，我們把「紅血球被破壞」稱為溶血。若您或是您的家人罹患PNH，您的紅血球因為缺乏保護性蛋白質，會導致血管內溶血。當溶血發生時，紅血球內的物質會進入血液循環，而可以影響全身。如果不好好照護，PNH可導致嚴重和危及生命健康問題，這些問題包括：引起不適的症狀、影響生活品質；肺部問題，例如肺動脈高壓；腎功能損傷；血栓。罹病後無論您有無感到任何不適現象，溶血是會一直持續發生的。部份PNH患者經歷了無預警加重的症狀，甚至危害生命[1-3]。因此，當您的LDH (乳酸脫氫酶，一種存在於紅血球內的酶，是檢測溶血程度的指標)升高，且有某些PNH相關症狀時，一定要提高警覺。
